Chief Secretary Sindh Syed Asif Hyder Shah, Commissioner Karachi Hassan Naqvi, and Director General KDA Zain-ul-Abideen Ansari attended a briefing regarding the 'Inclusive City' project.

Sindh Chief Secretary Syed Asif Haider Shah, Karachi Commissioner Hassan Naqvi and Director General Karachi Development Authority (KDA) Zainul Abideen Ansari attended a briefing on the Sindh government’s flagship welfare project Inclusive City. The project aims to provide quality medical facilities, rehabilitation and support, education, technical training and necessary facilities for independent living to the disabled at one place. The Inclusive City project is affiliated to the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD) and is planned to be established on approximately 75 acres of land near Shaheed Bhutto Expressway in Korangi. The main objective of the project is to provide an inclusive, accessible and conducive environment for the disabled where they can easily access basic amenities of life. During the briefing, a detailed review of the master plan of the project, development progress, proposed facilities and steps required for implementation was taken. The first phase of the project includes a hospital for inpatients, OPD and rehabilitation units, technical training centers, comprehensive educational institutions for the disabled, residential facilities for assisted living and transition to independent living, while the proposal to establish residences for staff. The objective of the project is to promote the autonomy, self-esteem and social inclusion of the disabled, so that they can be provided with quality health, education, skills, employment opportunities and a conducive environment for living a dignified and independent life. The briefing also discussed the proposed schedule for the functionalization of the project’s accessibility, road connectivity, drainage, basic amenities and initial phase facilities. The Karachi Development Authority expressed its determination to review the planning and engineering related matters falling under its jurisdiction and promote cooperation and coordination with the relevant departments and institutions as required to take the project forward. It may be noted that the work of expanding the road connecting Korangi Causeway to Baloch Colony Expressway Road is also underway by the KDA. This road project ends before the Inclusive City location and is a separate development scheme, however, it is expected to indirectly benefit regional connectivity by improving traffic flow in the surrounding areas. The participants emphasized that inter-agency cooperation, integrated planning and effective strategy are essential for effectively advancing public welfare projects, completing development initiatives in a timely manner and providing accessible facilities to all sections of society, especially the disabled. ‎
